Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) CEO Dr. Wilson Aruasa has applauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for awarding him the Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS).
He said the award was achieved through hard work and determination.
"I want to thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for this award and acknowledging my efforts and I promise to work even harder to ensure patients are given high-quality services," he said in Eldoret town, Wednesday.
“I also want to thank the staff and all stakeholders who made this happen. My God bless you,” he added.
He reiterated that since he took over, MTRH has undergone transformational leadership such as the introduction of cashless transactions through M-Pesa, agency banking and direct banking for Hospital and also raised the cost sharing (Appropriations-In-Aid) from Sh1.5 billion to Sh3 billion annually.
"I have also confirmed 700 staff into permanent and pensionable terms in July 2017. Some has been in contract with poor terms of service for as long as 10 years. I want to ensure that MTRH is the best referral hospital in Kenya but across Africa," noted Dr. Aruasa.
He, however, said the construction of the 4,000-bed Multi-Specialty MTRH that will incorporate MTRH Training Centre, KMTC Eldoret Campus and Moi University College of Health Sciences will commence in January 2018 and when completed, phase 1 of 2,000 beds will provide direct job opportunities for over 10,000 residents.
Dr. Aruasa was among Kenyans who were awarded by President Kenyatta for their exemplary work during the Jamuhuri Day celebrations.
