Patients that require specialised treatment from the North Rift and parts of Western Kenya regions have a reason to smile after the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret town received neurosurgical equipment from the United States valued at over Sh700,000.
The equipment will be a major boost to a recently renovated 45-bed Neurosurgical Unit at the Hospital which is the second biggest public health facility in the country.
While announcing the new development in Eldoret, Wednesday, Director of Medical Services Jackson Kioko reaffirmed the national government's commitment to ensuring all health facilities under them offer quality specialized treatment to Kenyans.
"The Hospital has received neurosurgical equipment and implants from our donor partners and as a government we will ensure this Neurosurgical Unit is fully operational as soon as possible," noted Kioko.
This comes at a time MTRH is conducting a one week Neuroscience camp that will see 60 patients undergo operations.
"We have Neurosurgeons from North Carolina working with our local doctors and we hope by Friday we will have completed the 60 operations," said the Hospital's CEO Dr Wilson Aruasa.
