Patients with minor ailments from Nyanza, the North Rift and Western Kenya regions will not be accepted at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH)- Eldoret, from 2017.
MTRH director Dr Wilson Aruasa advised Counties in the said region, to handle such cases in their County referral hospitals, and allow the facility an ample time to deal with specialised ailments.
He said MTRH was overstretched with a high number of patients seeking medication from neighboring regions, making it difficult for it to provide quality health services.
"This facility should not be handling minor ailments because our mandate is to deal with specialised cases only. At most cases, some Counties have been referring patients here for treatment of diseases that can be handled by hospitals in their Counties. sub-counties are now highly equipped to handle minor ailments,'' he said.
Aruasa was speaking during the launch of a Sh3 million Rafiki Youth Centre in Uasin Gishu County.
The centre is expected to serve 1,500 adolescents, including street children born HIV positive, by providing them with counseling services and ARV drugs.
