While unveiling the new service, MTRH director Dr Wilson Aruasa said patients who need surgery would no longer be forced to travel abroad to access the service.

Addressing the press at the hospital, Aruasa said they had acquired a Sh30 million shaver machine arthroscope that would facilitate the new service.

''We are here to announce commencement of a new service at the Moi Teaching and referral Hospital, that service is the shoulder surgery using specialised machine that we recently purchased,” noted Dr Aruasa.

“This will be a relief to many patients who have been traveling abroad or seeking the services in private facilities but now they can get it here in Eldoret,” he added.

Shoulder and knee problems are mainly common among athletes and the start of the surgery is good news to many of whom reside within the North Rift region.

MTRH becomes the first public health facility to offer such services in the region.
