The national government has announced plans to launch free internet services across the country before the end of next year.

According to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Cabinet Secretary (CS) Joe Muchere, the move is meant to make sure that Kenyans have access to internet services.

Speaking on Citizen TV on Sunday, Mucheru said that the government is closely working with county governments to ensure the project is initiated as soon as possible.

The CS said that Jubilee government is keen to leverage on technology in order to boost service delivery.

“We are working on a plan that will see each and every part of this country connected to internet before the end of next year,” said Mucheru.

Mucheru said that trough technology Kenyans will be able to access all government services easily.

The CS cited the recently launched free laptops to primary school pupils saying that it will set the pace for technological advancement in the country.

He said his ministry is working with stakeholders’ to improve infrastructure that will provide easy access to internet services.

At the same time, the CS said that government aims to create over 2 Million digital jobs in the next two years.

He said the government has launched various online platforms that will directly provide job opportunities to unemployed youths.

The ICT CS  said that the recent launch of Ajira Kenya, a website that links and directs unemployed youths to employers will help curb unemployment.
