Journalists and media actors in the country have been assured of their safety even as they go about their day to day business in the country.

ICT cabinet secretary Joe Mucheru said the government was committed to ensuring the same as part of its ambition to entrench constitutionalism and the rule of law in the country.

Speaking during the confrence on journalist's safety on Monday,  Mucheru added that access to information by citizens, decision makers and humanitarian actors was a vital pillar of development which the Jubilee regime was committed to overseeing.

"We are fully committed to fulfilling our obligations under international human rights law, including development and review of laws, policies and practices that guarantee the safety of journalists in Kenya", he stated.

His assurance comes amid reports on threats to reporters following heightened political activities in the country.
