ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi has urged the Senate to reject the controversial changes to the election laws that were passed by the National Assembly on Thursday last week.
Mudavadi faulted the Jubilee MPs who passed the amendments saying the country needs a fair and transparent election in 2017.
“We want victory through a fair and transparent election. What happened in Parliament is a recipe for a flawed election,” said Mudavadi as quoted by the Nation.
He instead called on the Senators to push for the formation of a mediation team.
“All eyes are now on the Senate and we urge it to throw out the controversial amendments to allow the formation of a mediation committee,” he said on Tuesday in Sabatia, Vihiga County.
The former vice president wondered why laws that were enacted through a negotiated agreement between Cord and Jubilee were now being amended by only “one side”.
The Senate on Wednesday held a special sitting to debate the amendments.
Already, Cord has threatened to stage mass protests beginning January 4 if President Uhuru signs into law the amendments.
