Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has been named chairperson of the Luhya community.
Mudavadi was crowned in Kakamega's Bukhungu Stadium on December 31, 2016, at a function presided over by Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli.
"I am asking Musalia to sit down with the other leaders to lay issues bare and resolve the tension," Atwoli said during the proclamation.
Mudavadi was appointed after emerging the most popular leader in Western where he garnered 38 percent of the vote ahead of the Kakamega county boss Wycliffe Oparanya and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang'ula who had 30 percent apiece.
Among the leaders who graced the occasion were Oparanya and Lugari MP Ayub Savula.
Kakamega and Bungoma senators Boni Khalwale and Moses Wetangula as well as former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo did not attend the event in what is read as dissatisfaction with Mudavadi's appointment.
Mudavadi's rating in popularity was arrived at after a study conducted by the University of Nairobi Economic Department between July and October 2016.
