Opposition alliance NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi has defended the decision by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula to seek re-election as senator during the forthcoming general elections.
Wetangula's move to defend his seat has largely been viewed as a fallback plan should NASA fail to win the presidency.
The Ford Kenya Party leader is one of the five NASA principals who is poised for a senior government position in the event the opposition wins.
He, alongside Bomet governor Isaac Rutto were designated the position of deputy premier Cabinet Secretary in an elaborate power sharing deal unveiled by NASA last month at Uhuru Park.
But in an interview with the Saturday Nation, Mudavadi observed that the political decision taken by Wetangula could increase voter turnout in Bungoma County - a perceived NASA stronghold.
“We used to have the President contest as an MP at the same time and nobody claimed they were greedy or prophesied losing. In this country, people apply for multiple jobs too. It’s just the system. In fact the more time they spend in their areas the more the turnout will be for Nasa," Mudavadi noted.
The coalition settled on ODM Party leader Raila Odinga as its presidential candidate, with Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka expected to deputize him.
