ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi now says the reason why NASA was taking too long to name a flag bearer is a tactic to win the August general elections.

Mudavadi said the alliance's strategy was to come up with a strong formation that will send home President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto in the forthcoming polls.

“We must be careful to ensure our lineup is viable and can oust the ruling Jubilee coalition,” Mudavadi said over the weekend during a function in Migori county.

The NASA co-principal assured their supporters that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka will not bolt out of the coalition, saying NASA will take on Jubilee as a united team.

"My brother Kalonzo is in NASA to stay and he is going nowhere. Jubilee has tensed because of our unity. They are aware we will send them packing in August," he added.

On Friday, Kalonzo said the final decision on NASA’s presidential candidate will be made by the four principals after receiving the report from the coalition technical and strategy committee.

“We will go on a retreat and it is while there that the decision will be made,” the former Vice President said at the Wiper Party headquarters in Nairobi when he received defectors from ODM and Labour Party of Kenya (LPK).
