Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi has pledged to continue with the fight for electoral justice and expansion of the democratic arena in Kenyan politics.
Reaffirming his commitment for change, the NASA co-principal said 2018 will be another year of restless crusading without yielding to alleged pressure from the State.
“We regret the return of suppression of democracy and the shrinking space for freedom of conscience, thought and expression as manifested in harassment of journalists, the emasculation of civil society and invasion of private space and violation of the individual by the State,” Musalia said in his New Year’s message.
Mudavadi further expressed the Opposition’s intent to push the government to the limits to ensure there is respect to the rule of law and good governance.
He said they had resorted pressure the ruling Jubilee in all available options since their push for dialogue with President Uhuru Kenyatta fell on deaf ears.
“The New Year is going to be the Year of Accountability. We will push for accountability everywhere in public life, we remain committed to a free and equitable society where the fruit of our labor is the source of our pride,” he said.
He claimed that the National government was planning to starve county governments of funds, a move he said the Opposition would seek to dislodge.
“We are also witnesses to a sinister ploy to starve county governments of funds to bring them to their knees,” he added.
The ANC party chief asked Kenyans to work together and save the country from destruction by the Jubilee administration.
