Before the dust settles on the KSh 5.2 billion graft at the Ministry of Health, Amani National Coalition leader Musalia Mudavadi has hinted of another mega corruption in Jubilee administration.
The fresh scandal, Mudavadi claims that the billions of shillings allocated to the elderly, orphans and vulnerable children and people living with disabilities has been stolen through the cash transfer programme.
The former Vice President said a probe into the programme would expose a rip-off that would make the NYS and Ministry of Health scandals look like child’s play.
He alleged that the elderly supposed to benefit from the funds are not receiving their monthly stipend but instead fictitious names have been registered clandestinely and used to pocket money by corrupt officials.
Speaking at a press conference in his Nairobi office, the former presidential candidate said a probe by the Auditor General will provide sufficient evidence of graft. Mudavadi also warned that rampant corruption will cripple the country's economic growth if not checked and addressed in good time.
Deputy President William Ruto while in Kisii County three weeks ago during celebrations to mark the International Day of Older Persons, said the number of elderly people benefitting from the programme had risen from 60,000 in 2013 to 324,000 this year.
He said there are plans to increase the figure and in this financial year, the government will spend Sh7.3 billion under the programme.
