Amid the growing scramble by the political divide to have his backing, Amani Coalition Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi has maintained that he is solidly in the race for the top seat.
Speaking during a call-in interview on Radio Maisha early Tuesday, Mudavadi downplayed claims that he would back another candidate in the 2017 polls saying he would battle it out with other contendors.
The former deputy prime minister who emerged third in the 2013 elections, also ruled out any possibility of working with the newly founded Jubilee party saying he would probably work with the opposition.
"I cannot work with Jubilee because I am seeking to have them out of office. That, therefore, means that I can only work with like minded leaders with the same intent," he said.
Regarding claims that the Cord coalition was seeking to have him be its flag baerer with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as his running mate, the former Sabatia MP said he was not aware of such arrangement since Cord had not approached him on the same.
"I only see it in the media but we have not held talks with Cord over the matter," he added.
Mudavadi said his main focus at the moment is to popularise ANC and later in the year he would consider entering into a political pact if need be.
