The highly charged event was spearheaded by COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli despite opposition from a section of Luhya leaders.

Mudavadi, who has shown interests in working with opposition leader Raila Odinga, also welcomed his new status as spokesperson adding that he will serve the interest of Western community without discrimination.

“I accept this owner with humility and commitment and above all, I want to be your servant without limits. I am ready to work and walk with you to build our nation,” he said.

“I am strongly guided by our forefathers whose spirits wants us to be together. The struggles of Martin Shikuku, Masinde Muliro, Kijana Wamalwa and many more must be crowned by our unity,” he added.

Mudavadi said the unity among Luhya community was indispensable towards liberating the country from a ‘corrupt’ Jubilee regime.
