The 2017 elections are supposed to be held in the second Tuesday of August but with just less than ten months to go, the country hasn’t replaced outgoing Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissioners.

Speaking on Saturday, Mudavadi accused the government of interfering with the committee mandated to recruit new officials purposely to delay elections.

“Jubilee thinks that we are not aware of rigging plans. Elections must be held in August as stipulated in the constitution. We are not going to accept any plans to push them forward,” he said.

“We want expeditious replacement of IEBC officials so that we embark on a process of preparing for elections without violating the dates set in the constitution. Jubilee should cooperate so that we reduce tensions,” he added.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Siaya Senator James Orengo who remained defiant that opposition will not allow pushing of election dates.
