In recent weeks, Mudavadi along with Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula, have been pushing for merger of the two parties following Raila Odinga's unprecedented decision to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

And on Monday, Mudavadi insisted that the NASA coalition is strong adding that its leadership has rolled out plans to even strengthen it further.

"NASA is intact and strong. It is ours and we should be talking about reclaiming it but not throwing the baby away with bath water," he said.

The former VP added: "We are engaging coalition partners and other like minded people to see how to make it stronger."

Last week, Wetangula, who has since fallen out with Raila, insisted that the ODM boss should prepare for political exit by 2022 polls.

Within Mudavadi's own ANC, nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi is at loggerheads with Barack Muluka, who he challenges has nomination as the party's Secretary General.
