The committee, according to Mudavadi, will only come up with guidelines on the best way to choose the opposition's  presidential candidate.

The 12-member team comprises senators James Orengo, Johnson Muthama, Agnes Zani and Boni Khalwale and MPs Eseli Simiyu, Sakwa Bunyasi, Francis Nyenze, Chris Wamalwa, Timothy Bosire.

Other members are former deputy speaker Farah Maalim and former Cabinet minister Kipruto Kirwa.

"The select committee is not mandated to chose a presidential candidate for NASA. The representatives from our four main anchor parties (ODM, Wiper, ANC and Ford-Kenya) are charged with a responsibility of making sure our coalition document takes care of the interests of everybody. For example, things like nomination rules, the composition of the NASA secretariat and the main agenda, that we, as a coalition, have for the country so that we can start going around telling Kenyans what we will be offering them," he said.

Mudavadi who made the remarks during an interview on KBC TV on Friday said the decision on the NASA flag bearer lies with the alliance's principals but will depend on the deliberations by the coordinating committee.

"When the time for nominating a candidate to fly the NASA flag comes, they shall have come up with nomination rules and guidelines on how to select the suitable candidate," said the former Vice President.

"They will tell us that if we go in a given direction, what the dangers would be and which way is the best for the opposition and from their deliberations, we will decide on which path to follow," he added.
