Amani National Congress party has received a major boost in their quest to take command of the western voting bloc, after former Agriculture Minister Kipruto Arap Kirwa joined the party.
Kirwa is said to have ditched New Ford Kenya, a party associated with Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.
Welcoming Kirwa to his new political home, ANC Leader Musalia Mudavadi spoke of welcoming more leaders to the party, as the country prepares for the next general elections.
However, the recent public spat between Musalia and Cord co-principal Moses Wetang’ula over who reigns supreme in the western region could not be avoided.
Wetang’ula has over time downplayed the coronation of Mudavadi as the Luhya spokesman, further saying the installation was sponsored.
“A spokesman is a puppet, a spokesman is a person who speaks for others, on behalf of others, on what they tell him to speak. No body tells us what to say, we speak what is in the interest of the community,” Wetangula had earlier said.
The ANC Leader chose to hit back on the same, calling the concerns as 'sideshows'.
“I will not waste my time trying to deal with sideshows,” he said.
According to Mudavadi, his concern is the interest of the community, and the leaders who are willing to talk and walk with him.
“My mission will be to reach out and I’ll persistently knock at their doors until eventually any issue that may still be pending may be resolved,” he added.
It will be interesting to see how the two work together, especially with the opposition planning to unite under NASA.
“Tomorrow’s meeting is not about tribes, but it’s a meeting of political parties yearning for opposition unity,” added Mudavadi.
