Amani National Coalition (ANC) Parliamentary Group (PG) has summoned party leader Musalia Mudavadi to appear before the team to explain why he snubbed NASA's event at Uhuru Park on Tuesday.

The opposition coalition had planned to swear in Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka as the People’s President and Deputy President respectively but it is only Raila who attended with Kalonzo, Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula  (Ford Kenya) giving the event a wide berth.

ANC parliamentary team chair and Lugari MP Ayub Savula, while expressing dismay that his leader skipped the oathing, said they want him explain under what circumstances he failed to attend Raila’s ‘inauguration’ before being condemned.

"We have now summoned him to appear before the parliamentary group to tell us what transpired at their meeting as principals and why he skipped the event," he told the Standard.

Savula acknowledged that they have received reports that Mudavadi could have been blocked from showing up at the fete, but insisted they want him to appear before the team in person to shed more light on what happened.

"Preliminary information reaching us is that police officers had curtailed his movement but we want to hear from him," the MP added.

Mudavadi, who is former Vice President and 2013 presidential candidate, is expected to face the PG at the weekend.

Among the ANC lawmakers who graced Raila's 'swearing-in' are Senators George Khaniri (Vihiga), Cleophas Malala (Kakamega) and MPs Omboko Milemba (Emuhaya), Titus Khamala (Lurambi) and their Nominated counterpart Godfrey Osotsi.

"Their presence showed that the party was fully behind the event," Savula noted.
