Speaker of the Senate Ken Lusaka has termed the move as selfish and alienating.

Lusaka says that it is ironic that those calling for unity did not see it fit to do so when Musalia Mudavadi ran for president in 2013.

“They should join us. We join them and go where? We can’t form a Mulembe party or one confined to Western Kenya and say we are going somewhere. We should include other parties,” he said during an interview on Citizen Extra.

“Luhya unity seems to be about an individual. If I am the leader it is Luhya unity, if it is someone else then it is not Luhya unity,” he added.

Wetangula and Mudavadi embarked on the mission after fallout with ODM party leader Raila Odinga over the famous handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to the two, Raila did not consult them before meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
