A major political battle is looming in Western region following installation of Musalia Mudavadi as Luhya spokesperson.
On Saturday, Mudavadi was chosen a de facto leader of the region, after a poll conducted by University of Nairobi Institute of Research, indicated that he was the most popular politician from the region.
The new developments however, have not gone down well with Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula, whose allies have dismissed the new developments as ‘misguided and uncalled for’.
“Atwoli is a failure who could not even manage a parliamentary seat. He cannot use fake results to impose someone on Luhya people without consulting us,” said Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, an ally of Wetangula.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale who maintained that Wetangula remains undisputed leader of Western region.
Political scientist Barrack Muluka however, believes that Mudavadi deserved the crown given his immense experience in leadership.
“He is the most senior Luhya leader and therefore, it was not a surprise for me. He still commands a huge following from the region,” he said.
COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has warned those opposed to Mudavadi of a major rejection by voters in this year’s polls.
