The Amani National Congress party is rolling out a countrywide campaign to increase the number of its members in readiness for the 2017 elections.
Speaking when he was hosted for a talk show at a local radio station, ANC Secretary General Godfrey Osotsi said the party, through a notice, had invited aspirants interested to vie for the six elective positions to submit their letters to the party secretariat.
The positions include that of president, senators, governors and women representatives. Others are for MP, people with special interests and MCA.
“We are a democratic party and that is why we have put out a notice so that all interested individuals can have an equal chance to fight for party nominations, including those already in the party,” said Osotsi.
Pressure is mounting for Mr Mudavadi to stop playing second fiddle to other parties and coalitions and gun for the presidency in August 2017.
The notice dispatched by the party and seen by this writer read in part: “Eligible aspirants interested in the above positions on ANC ticket are hereby requested to present their credentials in confidence to the party secretariat."
Women, youth and persons living with disabilities are also urged to join the party and vie for the available elective positions.
