NASA co-principal and ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi has lamented that his firearm has been withdrawn.
Below is his statement issued on February 1, evening.
"A firearm which I have had in my possession since 1993 for my personal safety has had its license withdrawn interfering with my personal safety. (I wonder if this is one of the many weapons of mass destruction that NASA has been accused of harboring).
A very important point to note is that NASA is not a military operation and does not have weapons of war. NASA is a legally registered political coalition comprising of 4 parties, namely, ANC, FORD KENYA, ODM and WIPER.
The clampdown by the state agencies on our personal being is quite unfortunate as the country has not been placed under any state of emergency!
We are seeking constitutional reforms in the following areas:
1. Electoral Justice; so as to ensure free fair and credible elections; That a person is legitimately elected to a political office as the peoples representative by counting and respecting every persons vote by taking it into account.
2. Independence of the Judiciary and other associated entities e.g. Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) which has been used to gag the media in the past few days thus interfering with and violating the independence of the media.
3. To ensure devolution is not undermined through poor policy support or lack of funding by the national government.
4. Police reforms to be looked into in accordance with the constitution.
5. The need to relook at the constitution in regard to Parliament and its relationship with the Executive to enable:-
a) Inclusivity at key levels of governance (the Bomas draft is a starting point).
b) Parliament to play a more active role as the watchdog of the society to ensure there is more accountability and freedom from the Executive.
We have just witnessed the interference of Parliament by the executive. An independent parliament is key to the political growth of KenyaFor those casting aspersions on members of NASA in the hope of creating division, I (we) have contributed immensely to the development of NASA and are committed to its continued growth into a formidable coalition.
We are stronger united rather than divided. Understanding the genesis of NASA and its long term goal(s) are key.
NASA’s objectives are not instant coffee. This is a long term goal!
Have a good night all."
