Amani National Congress (ANC) Party leader Musalia Mudavadi has received a major boost after Swahili elders backed his presidential bid.
More than 300 Swahili elders said the former Deputy President is the best candidate the National Super Alliance (NASA) can front to battle it out with President Uhuru Kenyatta in the upcoming general election.
The elders named Mudavadi ‘Musa’ in a colourful ceremony at the Swahili Cultural Centre near Fort Jesus on Sunday during his tour of the region.
The elders argued that Mudavadi is the best leader to correct the mistakes made by the current leadership.
"We have decided to name you Musa so that you can save Kenya from the current Jubilee government under NASA," said Mzee Mohammed Lali, as quoted by the Star.
Vihiga Senator George Khaniri reiterated the elders sentiments, saying Mudavadi stands a better chance than Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ODM's Raila Odinga and Ford Kenya's Moses Wetangula.
"We respect Raila, Kalonzo and Wetangula. But if we put them on the same table with Mudavadi, he stands out to be the best,” said Khaniri.
On his part, Mudavadi promised to transform the nation if elected to power in August.
