One person was on Thursday killed while tens of people were rendered homeless in Kapsangar village in West Pokot county following a mudslide.
A young girl was buried alive as eight others were left injured following the incident that was as a result of heavy rains being experienced in the area.
West Pokot County Commandant Mathew Kutoh confirmed the incident saying the area was prone to landslides.
He noted that several similar incidences have been reported in other parts in the county since the start of the heavy downpours.
"We walked for about 5 kilometers accessing the impact of landslide but we could not manage to get to end," said Kutoh.
According to the Kenya Redcross West Pokot county director, Carlos Kibet, the calamity not only ruined properties of the residents but also affected learning as Kaghmuu primary school was destroyed completely.
He, however, said that they will supply non-food items to the displaced families.
