Muhoroni MP James Koyoo wants the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) disbanded over claims that the body has failed to tame escalating road carnage witnessed across the country in the recent past.
The MP claimed the transport body had become ineffective and instead turned into a corruption racket.
Koyoo said on Monday that MPs would float a bill in parliament that would also disband government institutions that had become "amorphous and moribund".
The legislator blamed the authorities charged with the responsibility of making appointments to key government institutions of choosing to benefit relatives and friends and others who don't meet the threshold thus leading to the disorder and incompetence exhibited in the management of the organizations.
"We want the cabinet secretary for transport to wake up and appoint serious people into NTSA and not people who are thieves and are busy hunting money left right and center as our people perish on the roads," said Koyoo
The legislator further faulted NTSA for banning night travels and called on the transport CS to reign on the impending matter.
"Anybody who dares enough to speak the truth will tell you that it is not the buses that are responsible for the accidents on our roads but the heavy commercial vehicles that damage and cause all the menace on our roads," said the legislator.
He added that if the buses were the culprits then it only reflected on the poor training and reckless issuance of licenses to drivers and a heartless manner in which the vehicles were being inspected by the responsible authorities.
The lawmaker insisted that the buses should be allowed to operate for 24 hours to enable them ferry school children and save parents from unnecessary agony during the peak season.
