Green Initiative Organisation Western Region Director Anne Mwangi called on locals to set places in their farms for tree planting, because of the value that comes along with it.

“Trees are known to support our lives directly or indirectly, therefore as we cut them we should plant their replacements because they will attract rainfall and you all know the importance of rains,” said Mwangi.

Mwangi, who was speaking in the area during a tree planting exercise, said that the country has already started seeing the effects of cutting down trees and something needs to be done with immediate effect to avert any future disasters.

“This year, the rains came very late than usual and this can be attributed to cutting down of trees, as there was nothing to attract the rains. Conservation of the environment should start with individuals,” she said.

The director added that apart from environmental conservation, trees, if cultivated well, have monetary and aesthetic value.

She urged the government to enact legislation that supports conservation of the environment and be strict on the implementation.

Mwangi asked people to act in a manner that is not meant to hurt the environment.
