Teachers in Muhoroni sub-county have been warned against involving themselves in politics and drinking of alcohol.
Muhoroni MP Onyango Koyoo said some of the teachers were actively involved in politics instead of rendering services required of them.
Speaking during the commissioning of Ngere-Kagoro road in Muhoroni, Koyoo said he has received several complaints against teachers who are involved in politics.
He added that some of the teachers are also notorious in alcohol consumption thereby rendering them unproductive in service provision.
“Any civil servant should not engage into politics and those who want to do so should tender their resignation immediately,” he said.
Koyoo urged those teachers to stop such activities, warning that they risk being sacked if found guilty. He further asked teachers to exercise professionalism and avoid engaging into illegal affairs with students.
“Any teacher who is found involving to sexual activity with school going children will face full force of the law,” he said. Koyoo announced that they are currently investigating reports of those teachers involved in politics, alcohol and sexual activities with students, will take action against any teacher found guilty.
The MP challenged parents and teachers in Kisumu County to give priority to girl child education, adding that the rate at which the girls are dropping out of school is worrying and called for quick intervention.
The lawmaker noted that lack of attention by the stakeholders has led to poor performance among the girls across the country, adding that children have the right to basic education, and that girls have always been neglected, making their lives miserable.
