Attorney General Githu Muigai claims that he was never consulted on the amendment of the election laws that has brought the country into a standstill.
Muigai also insists that the process was parliamentary and there was no need for him to interfere with it since it would be unconstitutional.
The Attorney General has been invited by the Senate Legal Committee to give his perspective on the controversial amendments that has elicited animosity between opposition and government.
“I was surprised to see those (MPs) having a quarrel yet they had sat down and agreed initially. I was never called by joint Senate-National Assembly committee when all this started,” he told KTN.
“The process is parliamentary and there was no need for me to be involved. However, I am ready to share with them so that we reach an amicable solution,” added Muigai.
The Legal committee will table its recommendations on Thursday at the Senate for debate and should senators fail to agree, the house would be forced to vote for the amendments.
