In a wake of revelations by former premier that a number of names were omitted from the list of corrupt officials, a section of youth leaders in Nakuru have come out to express discontent with the revelations saying that they read malice in the whole issue.
Addressing journalists at The National Alliance Party (TNA) Rift Valley Headquarters in Nakuru over the weekend, the youth leaders led by were in total disagreement with Raila Odinga’s latest allegations arguing that there was more than the eye could see.
“Where was he when the names were being tabled in Parliament?" asked Muiruri.
“Investigations were conducted by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) and now people are being convicted, why has he been quite all along!” wondered Muiruri.
He accused the Cord leader of politicizing corruption arguing that the President was on the right track in his quest to fight the vice.
“Corruption is a national disaster in the country. A leader of his caliber should be supporting any initiative against it not politicizing it,” he said.
Adding that “He has been in government at some point of his political career, what has he done?”
Muiruri also argued that Odinga wanted to portray the government as a failure in the fight against corruption before US President Barack Obama who is expected in the country on Friday.
“Why reveal such serious allegations now that Obama is coming?” wondered Daniel Njoroge, TNA youth representative Gilgil Sub county.
Odinga accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of omitting some names of corrupt officers in his government who according to him must have been convicted.
“Cabinet Secretary, Anne Waiguru, Independence Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Isaac Hassan and his Commissioners should be behind bars by now. Everything in their respective dockets is enough evidence of how corruption has taken root, but it’s interesting that their names were missing in the list of shame,” Raila said.
Among cabinet secretaries out of office due to corruption allegations are Charity Ngilu (Lands), Felix Kosgey (Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock), Davies Chirchir (Energy and Petroleum), Eng. Michael Kamau (Infrastructure and Transport), Francis Kimemia, Secretary to the Cabinet, Noluva Muli, Principal Secretary State Department of Transport among others.
