Just when we thought that the 2022 presidential race is an already crowded field, enters another prospective presidential candidate.
Former Cabinet Minister and head of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi has hinted at vying for the presidency in 2022.
In an interview with The Star Newspaper on Monday, Kituyi suggested that he could go for a higher office when he leaves the United Nations.
"You know I am at the start of a four-year mandate and you’re soon going to elect a government with a five-year mandate. None of us has the prescience to know what Kenya will look like in another three, four years,” he said.
“Let’s all see how things evolve and play by the ear and the eye, halafu [then] we cross that bridge when we get there," he added.
Should he opt to vie for the presidency, then he is likely to face off with political heavy weights who have already made it clear that they will be going for the country's top seat, including Deputy President William Ruto, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, Meru governor Peter Munya and Budalang'i MP Ababu Namwamba.
