If Mukhisa’s word is anything we can go by, he is likely to face Deputy President William Ruto and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Amani National Congress (ANC) Leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya Leader Moses Wetangula, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and his Machakos counterpart Dr. Alfred Mutua have also hinted at running for the nation’s top seat.

Mukhisa, who started another four-year term at the UN, said that he will consider the idea at the right time.

Speaking to a local daily, the former Minister for Trade and Industries said that he will look at the political situation before making a decision.

“You know I am at the start of a four-year mandate and you’re soon going to elect a government with a five-year mandate. None of us has the prescience to know what Kenya will look like in another three, four years,” he said. The entry of Mukhisa into the Presidential race will complicate matters for Wetangula and Mudavadi, who are both scouting to replace Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, if he wins in August.
