Matungulu MP Stephen Mule has invited the ministry of education to swiftly move in and audit the schools' activity fees accounts in his constituency.
In a hurriedly convened press briefing at his Tala office, the MP said he 'smelt a rat' from the manner in which primary schools in the constituency were managing monies levied as 'activity fees' from parents.
"Despite the fact that each pupil has been paying Sh250 towards the fund, I note with great disappointment that majority of school heads were still making appeals for extra support from my office, which I find strange," he said.
He said there was 'reasonable' cause to suspect foul play on the part of individuals who are tasked with the responsibility of managing the central fund.
"I will not allow parents in Matungulu to be exploited by anyone. This issue has to be addressed once and for all but before that those concerned must be ready to explain how the monies had been utilized for the past three years.
