A new online portal to fight crime has been launched in Nakuru. The service named Mulika Uhalifu enables users to report crime incident to security officers via a text message.
The service is a product of Business Integrity Africa which is headed by Nakuru born entrepreneur Grace Wanjohi in Conjunction with security agencies.
Talking about the new initiative, Francis Kariuki explained that residents can report any crime by writing a text message to 22068 starting with the county name.
“The security agencies will get your message and no one will know who has sent the message,” Kariuki said.
Once the text message is sent to 22068, it is received by security agents.
According to the Mulika Uhalifu website, the portal will enhance both accountability and transparency in fighting crime since multiple agencies will be involved.
“The follow-up will be headed by the County Security Committee, Chaired by the County Commissioners. This will bring accountability, transparency and enhance teamwork among the multiple security agencies and will ensure that issues raised by the community are attended to,” reads part of the website.
