The poultry industry on Tuesday received a major boost after the Kenya Industrial Estate (KIE) donated sh100 to facilitate poultry farming.
County Trade, Energy and Industrialisation Executive Director Alice Moraa said the money would benefit farmers in Kisumu's seven sub counties namely Muhoroni, Nyakach, Nyando, Kisumu West, Kisumu Central, Kisumu East and Seme.
"We want to thank KIE for this good gesture that will help reduce food insecurity in the area. The new project will bring more demand for poultry products.The money will be advanced to interested farmers as a soft loan with low interest rates," Moraa wa quoted by The Standard.
The Former Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga, who is the county's special programmes coordinator, noted that the project was important in attaining food security in the county.
She called on all poultry farmers to apply for the fund and take their businesses to the next level.
"We are going to fund both individuals and organised groups to invest in poultry farming for their own food security and commercial purposes,'' she stated.
