The president of Multimedia University of Kenya Students Association, Omwoyo Maranga has condemned the detainment of SONU Chairman Babu Owino over alleged incitement remarks.
Maranga has said the arrest of the Paul Ongili is an attempt to silence students and young leaders from condemning evils in society.
"The detainment of the SONU chairman is unwarranted and unacceptable. The allegations against him are maliciously seeking to silence the youthful vibrant voices in society," said Maranga.
He added that comrades across the country were displeased with the detainment of their leader who is well known for his fineness in protecting student's rights.
Maranga faulted the move saying nine of the detainees had been convicted with incitement before the arrest, a move that sparked demonstration by University students in the city.
The university of Nairobi (UoN) on Wednesday showed their allegiance to their leader and four time students organisation of Nairobi University (SONU) Chairperson Babu Owino.
The obviously optimistic students led by a number of their leaders filled up every space when Babu Owino appeared before judges in court yesterday.
Babu is being charged with allegations of hate speech against member of parliament for Gatundu South Constituency, Moses Kuria.
