The National Assembly Agriculture Committee (NAAC) is seeking to petition Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko to order the arrest of defiant Mumias Sugar Board officials for allegedly skipping meetings since May.

NAAC chairman Adan Noor said that the group was supposed to hold a Thursday meeting to make deliberations on the fate of the board although the meeting has now been postponed due to the Jubilee Party launch preparations.

“The only thing remaining is to take legal action against the board management because we have invited them but they never honoured the invitations,” Noor said.

The ministry has waited four months to get a vital report on the company’s management of monetary resources but the top brass is yet to avail it. The report was supposed to be submitted before end of May.

“The ministry wrote back to us [committee] that the board has refused to give the report and that is why we have to use another route. We have to get the report because the board used the shareholders’ money to pay for the audit,” said Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali.
