Mumias Sugar Company has been requested to take the cane which has been burned at Chemelil Sugar Company which cannot be taken up by Kibos and Muhoroni Sugar Companies.
Kisumu county governor Jack Ranguma said he was getting concerned because of the dry season and cane is being burned hence must reach the factories within three days.
Ranguma said if Chemelil factory is not working, Muhoroni and Kibos are not able to handle that magnitude of cane being burned on the ground.
The governor was speaking to the press in Kisumu after touring the facility on Monday to see its progress and maintenance to bring back the plant that produces power to run the factory.
“Power generation is critical for factories like Chemelil hence was getting concerned of the dry season and cane is being burned hence needed to check the status because I was told that its almost complete,” he said.
The governor said he was taken aback after being told that somebody from Kisumu had given an order stopping the company from making payments for the company in India where the machine was purchased to release an engineer to come and do the final inspection at the facility.
The governor said he will deal with the matter because it’s important that the inspection is done for the company to enjoy the warranty associated with the machine.
