Mumias Sugar Company has resumed selling electricity to Kenya Power .

The troubled Sugar Miller had stopped supplying electricvity to KP about three years ago following a dispute.

According to Mumias Communication Manger, Moses Owino, the firm has so far sold 3,000Mwh to the electricity distributor since mid-last month.

Mr Owino said about 55 per cent of its daily power output is exported to the national grid, with the rest used to run its machines.

“We have resumed export of electricity to the national grid following the move by the company to restart the stalled cogeneration plant,” said Mr Owino.

The two firms have revised terms of engagement and removed punitive clauses in the agreement which saw Mumias slapped with a huge fine by Kenya Power for failure to supply electricity to the grid as stated in the initial agreement.
