At least two schools in Mumias West constituency in Kakamega county have been closed down after it emerged they had no toilets.The schools, Shibale Primary School and Shibale Secondary were shut down by the public health officials.According to a public health officer, Antony Ngaira, students were sharing a pit latrine with teachers at Shibale Mixed Secondary School while in Shibale primary girls were sharing the facility with boys."A girls’ toilet collapsed on September 6, 2017 at Shibale Primary forcing girls to share the same facility with boys," Ngaira is quoted by Daily Nation.The principal of Shibale Secondary School Were Webukha explained that putting up the required 8-door toilet would need more time due to the economic hardship in the area.On the other hand, the chairman of Shibale Primary School board of management, Julius Chimwene, called for financial support from the county and national governments towards the schools.He also appealed to wells-wishers for their financial help.
