Mumias Sugar Company has received Sh500 million from the government as bailout money promised by President Uhuru Kenyatta before the elections.

On August 1 this year, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto pledged to revive the ailing miller as they sought votes from the Western region.

According to MSC's corporate manager Moses Owino, the money has already arrived after taking time due to logistical issues.

“There were several things about the whole thing including the spending account, bail account and signatories. The company was running several accounts,” Owino said.

“When the money was released to the company, there was a lot of politics but now we have the money,” he added.
