At least 200 youths in Mumias constituency took the streets Saturday morning accusing Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali of not paying them for their service of welcoming Deputy President William Ruto.
According to the youths, Washiali was to pay them Sh3 000 each but he had ended up not honouring the promise.
“We were promised that if mheshimiwa Ruto came and we offered him a warm welcome, we would be given the money. Now that he has come we have been given Sh200 only,” said Evans Misao, a protester.
The protester lamented that Washiali had kept them at the rally till evening with the promise that the money would be paid but that this did not eventually happen.
“They go elsewhere for development but only hold harambees in Mumias. Is Mumias the same as other places or is it different?” another youth asked.
"We will unite to make sure the Jubilee government goes home," he added.
