Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro on Wednesday held a series of rallies in different parts of the county including Ganze and Bamba, urging residents to back his gubernatorial bid in the forthcoming general election.
Addressing residents at Ganze and Bamba trading centres, Mung'aro promised to deal with corrupt officials if elected as the county's next governor. He launched a scathing attack at the incumbent, Governor Amason Kingi, accusing him of poor performance. The governor hopeful claimed that residents in rural areas have not realised the fruits of devolution due to mismanagement of funds by the current regime. He also rubbished allegations that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have not initiated projects in Kilifi, adding that the national government has pumped a lot of money in the area. He further asked leaders to stop lying to residents that Jubilee has failed the electorate. “People are portraying a picture that the national government is not keen on developing the counties. The truth is that the county gets Sh9.6 billion every year from the national government. Have you asked yourselves where this money [goes]?” asked Mung’aro, as quoted by the Nation. The MP vowed to deal with corrupt leaders in the county if he ascends to power come August 8.“If you elect me in August, my first job will be getting all the plundered county resources back to the people. All the riches that were acquired through corruption should be repossessed and given back to the tax payers. I will do that without fear,” he added. The MP was accompanied by Ganze counterpart Peter Shehe.
