Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro has promised tol construct a multi-billion-shilling coconut processing factory in Kaloleni if elected governor in August.Speaking to residents of Kayafungo and Mwanamwinga wards in Kilifi, Mung’aro said the current leadership has done little to improve the welfare of coconut farmers in the county. The MP said his leadership will support all farmers in the county, adding that he will improve the welfare of local residents if he rises to power. “The agriculture sector is devolved and almost all its resources taken to the county government. With many coconut trees in this region, the county failed to utilise the opportunity to set up a factory in Kaloleni to process the coconut tree and its by-products to boost your lives,” he said, as quoted by the Nation. The governor aspirant further said his government will allocate at least Sh5 billion towards the plant, adding that it will create employment to around 300 locals and benefit another 5,000 residents indirectly upon completion. Mung'aro will be banking on the support of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to unseat the incumbent, Governor Amason Kingi.
