Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro has said that reckless statements by Cord principal Raila Odinga, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and other opposition leaders are likely to affect the tourism sector in the Coast region.
Mung’aro said the region is recovering from the bad reputation it had gained because of increased cases of terror attacks, but remarks by Opposition leaders will bring down the sector once again.
“After a long lull due to travel advisories that have now been lifted, tourism has started picking up with hotels recording good occupancy,” said Mung’aro, as quoted by the Nation.
The MP also noted that the tourism sector was offering jobs to youth in the region, hence the leaders should tame their tongues.
“Our youth are beginning to get employment (in) the sector. It is these gains that we must jealously protect by keeping the peace. But with such reckless utterances by leaders, things could suddenly slump again,” he added.
The MP's sentiments come after Raila on Tuesday warned the Jubilee administration that if anything happens to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Kenya will burn.
"We have information that they want to do to Joho what they did to the late Jacob Juma but let us warn them that Kenya will burn if anything happens to Joho," said Raila.
