Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro has appealed to the Somali community to back his gubernatorial bid.

Speaking at Wananchi cottage in Kilifi Town where he met a group of representatives from the community, Mung’aro assured the members that he will involve them in the affairs of the county if they elect him as their next governor. The MP lauded the community for playing an immense role in the county's economic growth, adding that he will create more opportunities for them if elected to power. He further said that he will not only work with Somali but also other communities in the county to ensure growth within the five years he is going to be in power. “I will work with everyone. I will incorporate you in my administration and it is not only the Somali community but even other communities that call Kilifi their home, despite coming from other regions,” said Mung'aro, as quoted by the Nation. The outspoken leader bashed out at Governor Amason Kingi for allegedly failing to implement the promises he made to the county residents when he was seeking power in 2013.His sentiments were backed by Somali community vice-chairman Abdulkleis Issak who said they have had nothing to smile about since Kingi took over as governor. mungaro“There are so many Somalis in the county but [we] have been discriminated [against]. We live in isolation from the locals and in offices; they see us as non-Kilifi residents. That is very bad,” said Mr Isaak.
