Leaders from the Coast region have lashed out at Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung'aro, for saying his alignment with the Jubilee government has led to development in the region.
Mung'aro also attributed the recent appointments of Ramadhan Kajembe to the Kenya Ferry Services Board, and Catherine Wairi as the new KPA managing director to his lobbying.
Speaking in Kilifi Town, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi rubbished Mung'aro's remarks, terming them as pure chest thumbing and canvassing.
"Ms Catherine Wairi worked her way up the ladder to become the first woman to serve in that capacity at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA). It is a blatant lie for one to claim that he pushed for her employment. It amounts to canvassing, and can land one in court,” said Kingi.
The governor's sentiments were echoed by Kilifi Woman Representative Aisha Jumwa, who dismissed Mung’aro’s utterances, saying his actions amount to blackmail.
“Mr Mung’aro is trying to tell the people of Coast that Jubilee cannot work for its residents unless they align themselves with the party. That is the same as intimidating the people,” said Jumwa.
