With the ongoing voter-listing exercise almost coming to an end, former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana has asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to extend the voter registration period to give residents in drought-stricken counties time to enlist.
Mungatana, who was speaking at Hola in Tana River County, asked the electoral body to allocate more BVR kits to the hardship areas.
"Many people are yet to register because they have relocated to other areas in search of food, pasture and water. The electoral body should come up with a way to ensure that these people are registered," he said.
According to IEBC records, drought-stricken areas including Tana River, Kwale and Kilifi counties have so far listed few new voters in the ongoing month-long exercise.
"Residents of these areas should be allowed more time to register, given that most of the time they are out there looking for food and pasture as famine escalates," he added.
