Former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana has denied involvement in the Sh51 million Kilifi County graft scandal.

Mungatana said he has never met Lucy Wanjugu, who claimed that the politician had asked to use her company's bank account to carry out some transactions.

Wanjugu, who is the third defendant in a civil suit filed by the Kilifi County government, claimed that Mungatana engineered the scandal through the Integrated Financial Management Information System(IFMIS).

Wanjugu, a director at Zohali Services, claimed that she met the former MP in July last year over the matter.

However, Mungatana has denied claims of ever conducting business with Wanjugu.

“For purposes of setting the record clear, I do not know Wanjugu and I have neither dealt with her nor given her instructions, or received any money from her, or companies linked to her," said Mungatana, as quoted by The Star.

Mungatana affirmed that the only business he runs is a law firm.

“I operate no business other than my law firm, and the public know about it. I have not done any business with any county government including Kilifi," he added.

Mungatana, who has declared interest in the Tana River gubernatorial race, faulted Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi for making a conclusion over the matter without allowing investigations to be conducted by the relevant bodies.

“We know there are independent investigations going on. It is only fair and just that the respective bodies be allowed the opportunity to conclude this matter. The Governor must not cloud this investigations with partisan allegations intended to divert attention from real issues," he said.
