The alleged involvement of former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana in the Sh51 million Kilifi corruption scandal has attracted mixed reactions from different leaders in the region.
This comes after Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi called upon the team investigating the matter to arrest Mungatana, in a bid to recover the lost funds.
Mungatana, however, denied claims of being the mastermind behind the scandal.
The former MP said he has never met Lucy Wanjugu Kibogodi, the director of Zohal Services Limited, one of the four companies that have been linked to the scandal.
Kaloleni MP Gunga Mwinga has come out in defense of Mungatana, and called upon Kingi and other leaders to stop making conclusive remarks before investigations are completed.
“When we sat as Kilifi leaders after the scandal rocked the county government, we asked Governor Kingi to make sure that those behind the theft of the money face the law. Unfortunately, the governor is rushing into conclusions on personalities, which is very wrong,” said Mwinga, as quoted by Nation.
Mwinga also hit out at Kilifi Deputy Speaker Teddy Mwambire, and asked him to desist from linking Mungatana to Kadu Asili, arguing that he is no longer a member of the party.
Malindi MCA Kaunda Chokwe also called for the arrest of Mungatana, saying “It is absurd to see people defending a criminal due to political bias.”
